What is Play Space?

Play Space is an Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) affinity space where we create community through creativity. Participants self-identify as AAPI. It is an event that takes place every second Monday of the month from 7-9pm. It is hosted by the Filam Film Collective and UAA.

What happens at the event?

It varies from month to month. These are some different things we've done in the past:

  • blocking and reading parts of a script

  • learning grounding exercises

  • theatre games

  • trust exercises

What's great about Play Space is that we can explore many different topics and exercises. The thing that stays constant is a willingness to explore together.

Who leads Play Space?

We believe that you create leaders in the community by giving them chances to lead. Any artist from the AAPI community in San Diego can lead an event. Most events have had multiple leaders. If you are interested in leading something in Play Space, please email thefilamfilmcollective@gmail.com and unitedaapiartists@gmail.com.

Note: We are not mental health professionals. We encourage Play Space participants to seek further resources in support of their well-being.

August 2022: Taking Space

Play Space takes place at Diversionary Theatre. In effort to create authentic bonds with the AAPI community in San Diego, Diversionary offers their home as a space for this monthly event.
